Highly Commended Project, given to teams whose projects were outstanding and impressed the judging panel. The 2023 Global Final awards were given to: 

  • Charles University, Research into Birth trauma in the Czech Healthcare System. 

  • University of Calgary, Family Physician Shortage: A Canadian Healthcare Crisis. 

  • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, The Whole Student: A systemic analysis of the mental health landscape on college campuses, USA. 

Involvement of underrepresented community voices, given to teams who indicated a clear commitment to amplifying the voices of underrepresented identities, by incorporating these perspectives into their research or analysis. The 2023 awards were given to: 

  • King’s College Nepal, Inequitable Access to Infertility Care Services in Kathmandu. 

Excellent example of systems collaboration, given to teams who modelled excellent systems collaboration by involving non-student team members from outside their immediate network or collaborating with an external partner relating to their challenge (e.g. Researchers, Policy makers, Industry experts, specialist NGOs or local charities). The 2023 awards were given to: 

  • University College London, Exclusion of transgender women from the workforce in Argentina. 

  • University of Oxford, Nomken: Exclusion of Children with Down’s Syndrome in Egypt. 

Excellent Project from a Newcomer Institution, recognises teams representing institutions participating in MTS for the first time - an inaugural MTS entry is a big effort for students and educators! The 2023 Global Final award was granted to: 

  • Macalester College, Accumulation of Electronic Trash in Ghana. 

Excellent Undergraduate Project, recognises the tremendous efforts of undergraduate MTS participants, who greatly impressed the judges. The project is especially challenging for those who have not yet experienced master's level studies and research. The 2023 awards were given to: 

  • Ashesi University, No Bed Syndrome: Patient Rejection in Ghanaian Hospitals 

  • Corpus Christi College and St. Mark's College at UBC, Beyond the Bedside: The Nursing Shortage in British Columbia. 

  • Universidad Anahuac Mexico, Analysing Drug Abuse in Minors and the root causes in Mexico. 

  • The University of British Columbia, Sexual Health Education in British Columbia’s School Systems, Canada.
